Is it Best to Buy or Build Talent? Understanding how best to create a great team with the best people

NOVEMBER CEO WORKSHOP: NOVEMBER 14TH, 2013

Just like the old “Nature Vs. Nurture” question, we often ask ourselves as leaders if our team would be better to build by developing the people we have or if we should bring in new expertise to add/replace members to our team.  Building the right team is critical to long-term success and is filled with pit-falls and stumbling blocks.  Many leaders have a preferred method of developing their team – grow their own (also called hiring from within) or hiring new (often called infusing new blood.)  Unfortunately it is not always so cut and dry. There are times to “manage-up” and times to hire on. Knowing when each is appropriate can mean the difference between average teams and amazing teams.
